There were a few that really caught my eye. I really like Rosa’s Camp Pendleton book…I just loved the photos especially the photo of the wood underneath the bridge. Another one that I really liked was Jermaines… I liked that it was a documentary of what he loves to do and the photos seem like they stay true to the story and experience– fun! Overall, I enjoyed all the books…they were awesome!!
last day of class.

Dia De Los Muertos Festival.
3 12 2009Rene and I went to check out the dia de los muertos festival this year at Mission Del Rey in Oceanside. We’ve never been…I guess since it’s suppose to be the most important holiday in mexico, we decided to check it out . It was pretty interesting. It was quite bright out so alot of my photos were full of shadows and harsh contrast. I managed to find a few that i did like and i tweaked the colors, they came out pretty good.
The Mexican Marigolds is also known as the “flower of the dead”, the scent of these flowers supposedly attract souls to the offerings on the altar and back to earth. The festival was decorated everywhere with these flowers. Marigolds are a symbol of the sun’s rays, since the sun is the origin of all living things, the marigolds are to remember that the deceased have not lost their place in the universe.
I really liked the little statues they had everywhere. They’re called calaveras and they are hand carved skulls and skeletons that are placed on the altar along with food and other offerings.
There was also a classic car show so we checked it out…well Rene checked them out, i tagged along.

can’t wait.
2 12 2009i finally ordered it last thurs. i opted for overnight shipping cause i was cuttin it pretty short. I ended up changing the cover…i think that’s what took forever for me….but i finally settled.
The cover is completely different from my previous choice. I think this one fit it more…i still included that picture into this book. I really liked that picture. I experimented with the color alot and i loved the way it turned out. I will be using that picture for the process of art exhibit. I want to print it on canvas.
anyway, i hope the book prints out ok…i tried to make them a little brighter since i know it’s darker printed so i’m crossing my fingers!!
i’m so glad that all the work for that project is over. it was really hard to do night photos since the nights have been so cold the past few weeks…also because it’s hard to get the right exposure in some areas and it took so much time. I would be out shooting for 2 and some hours each night and only get 2-3 photos that i want to use…SO i had to go back out and shoot more. It was a good experience and i knew what i was getting myself into before i chose it….i really wanted to try something challenging and different for me. I think night photography may be a new passion for me.
I also learned alot more about editing photos which was great… i guess it is all about the process like teachers always tell us in class. I see what they mean…

hmm, idk.
26 11 2009I was having the most difficult time figuring out what title i wanted to use and what i was going to do with the cover page. I need to make final decision so i can order this book already. This is what i have come up with so far…
i decided to call it, ‘While you’re asleep,” because most of these pictures were taken late…close to midnight in the middle of the week. The streets weren’t as busy, probably because it’s really late people have work in the morning…so these photos are what happens while people are indoors probably asleep. —weird but that’s what popped in my head. hehe.

for a friend in need.
24 11 2009i started a new blog today that i’m going to strictly dedicate to my friend, Roger Diaz. he recently suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and is currently in surgical intensive care fighting for his life. He has undergone 2 brain surgeries so far and is still under close surveillance at the icu. I wanted to create something to spread the word and hopefully reach out for some help because Roger and his wife will certainly need it. Not only do they face the struggle to make it to a full recovery, but the medical costs just keep climbing. Roger still has a long road ahead of him; we can alleviate some of that hardship with our support–emotional and financial.

Collier Schorr
8 11 2009
Schorr was just a little to weird for me. Her obsession with boys in the wrestling team are a bit disturbing, i totally understand her explanation of her point of view… but it’s still a little to eerie. I did like the photos with her son and his friends reenacting soldiers in the war, those were quite interesting. Otherwise, I’m not too fond of her work so i don’t have much to say about it really.

exhaustion. thank g0d for emergency chocolate ^_^
29 10 2009wow, i don’t think i have ever felt so tired until yesterday. i had my first meal at 9:30 pm and went straight to sleep shortly after that. I was busy finishing up a presentation before my class and just had no time to pick up any food or snacks. Well i could have but i just had too much to do. I was sick and have a lot of catching up to do with my projects so it’s been pretty stressful! I had one class right after the other and just thought i’d wait til i get home to eat….BAD IDEA since my last class was suppose to end at 10 pm. Luckily, my teacher wasn’t feeling well too so he let us out right after lecture, which was still 2 hours long. I felt soooo faint in class, my stomach was hurting, i was parched, and after getting sick…i didn’t even want to drink from the water fountain…basically i had no energy. walking to my car was a journey since it was frickin windy as hell and for someone who hadn’t eaten all day….the cold was multiplied!! I felt like i was gonna faint when i got home so i just went straight to bed as soon as i walked in ( it was pretty funny cause i came in and both dogs and i just looked at each other silently for about 5 seconds or so and i was just like…i don’t have energy for this u guys, lol). After laying there for about 10 minutes in fetal position, i finally conjured up enough energy to go back downstairs and get some food. I couldn’t even do that since i was so nauseas…so i just had a glass of water. since i couldn’t make myself anyfood, i had to eat my emergency chocolate lol which really helped! >> The instructions r funny.. Everygirl needs one of these

anyway, i ended up falling asleep by 10:30…woke up at 4 am and watched the 1st little mermaid movie on the disney chanel as well as married with children. lol…wow, the good stuff shows before the sunrises i suppose.
anyway, lesson learned. i will never put eating aside for work… hahaha.
